我知道笼中鸟的感想，呵！

当高地斜坡上明媚阳光；

当风轻轻拂过春草，

河流像玻璃流一样流淌；

当时光中第一只鸟儿歌唱，第一朵花蕾绽放，

圣杯散发出淡淡的芳香——

我知道笼中鸟的感想！

我知道笼中鸟为何拍打翅膀

直到鲜血染红残酷的栏杆；

他必须飞回窝巢，依偎

他欢欣时可以在树枝上荡秋千；

痛楚依然刺激旧的伤疤

它们的刺痛似脉率般跳荡

我知道它为何拍打自己的翅膀！

我知道笼中鸟为何唱歌，呵 我，

当他的翅膀受伤，他胸口疼痛的时候，——

当他打败他的拘拦，他就会自由；

这不是欢乐或者愉悦的讴唱，

是他的祈祷发自内心的渴望，

是一个恳求，他仰首抛向天国——

我知道笼中鸟为何唱歌！

I know what the caged bird feels, alas!

    When the sun isbright on the upland slopes;   

When the wind stirs soft through the springing grass,   

And the river flows like a stream of glass;

    When the firstbird sings and the first bud opes,   

And the faint perfume from its chalice steals—

I know what the caged bird feels!

I know why the caged bird beats his wing

    Till its blood isred on the cruel bars;   

For he must fly back to his perch and cling   

When he fain would be on the bough a-swing;

    And a pain stillthrobs in the old, old scars   

And they pulse again with a keener sting—

I know why he beats his wing!

I know why the caged bird sings, ah me,

    When his wing isbruised and his bosom sore,—

When he beats his bars and he would be free;

It is not a carol of joy or glee,

    But a prayer thathe sends from his heart’s deep core,   

But a plea, that upward to Heaven he flings—

I know why the caged bird sings!
