【题记】威廉·考珀（William Cowper,1731～1800），英国现代派诗人。他的作品在清纯的自然描写中融入对人物性格的刻画，真切动人。原诗句式为aabbccddee，每两行转韵，译诗保持其韵式，以求对应。

清溪蜿转越林间，女仆贞纯透雅娴。
默然莲步避嚣尘，摆脱烦劳异众生。
温和蕴蓄力无穷，专注航程志在胸。
优雅善行禆益足，芳踪到处尽祈福。
潋滟冰心净镜光，颜如西子映天堂。

Sweet stream, that winds through yonder glade,
Apt emblem of a virtuous maid—
Silent and chaste she steals along,
Far from the world's gay busy throng;
With gentle yet prevailing force,
Intent upon her destined course;

Pure-bosom'd as that watery glass,
And Heaven reflected in her face.
